Making No. 2 / FAUNA Contributor Spotlight: Susan B. Anderson

Enjoy an interview with Susan B. Anderson, designer of the Butterfly & Cocoon for Making No. 2 / FAUNA!

Why are you excited about the project you designed for Making?

I love the Butterfly & Cocoon project to no end. It turned out so good, better than I had dreamed! I am excited to see people start knitting their own versions and for little hands to start loving their own hand knit fauna.

Share a project, either past present or future that you are especially proud of.

I have a couple of things I am especially proud of creating. I am proud of my books. My first book was published 10 years ago in 2006 and it launched my career as a knitting author and designer. I poured my heart and soul into all of my books and each book was about around two years in the making. It felt like a major accomplishment when each book was published. The other thing I am especially proud of are the Mary, Millie & Morgan dolls I made with Quince & Co. Those dolls had been a longstanding idea and dream of mine and Pam Allen encouraged me to make them for Quince & Co. I am so glad I did. When I told Pam about the dolls I wanted to design she was all in and she did a great job making that project come to life. I feel like the book and ebook is just beautifully done, the dolls, words, patterns, doll clothes and photographs by Carrie Bostick Hoge just came together like magic. Mary, Millie & Morgan are my favorite design to date.

If you were going to create something just for fun today, what would it be?

I would start sewing a new quilt. I have some really fun Heather Ross fabric all washed and set to be cut but I just can't find that stretch of time needed. Just thinking about it makes me happy.... someday soon!

If you could collaborate with three people, who would they be and why?

Kevin Henkes because he is my favorite children's literature author and it would be such an honor to work with him. Lori Ann Graham of @loritimesfive because look at her Instagram!  Gale Zucker because I love her photography and I love her!

Thank you, Susan!
